My First Blog Post - PremiumNearBeer.com
Welcome to my first blog post (ever!). First off I would like to introduce myself: my name is Ted Fleming and I’m the owner and founder of PremiumNearBeer.com. I live in the west end of Toronto with my wife and two young girls. My first foray into business started in 2010 when my wife and I bought a self-storage business (AlgomaSelfStorage.com) in Wawa, Ontario. Two years later we installed a solar energy power plant on the roof of the business that generates excess energy to sell into the provincial grid. I founded PremiumNearBeer.com in 2013. Outside of time spent with my family and business (so not too often) you will find me enjoying sporting activities including hockey, squash, tennis, and windsurfing.
So why did I start PremiumNearBeer.com? In 2005 I was diagnosed with a chronic illness that I struggle to control. It took me over 6 years to realize and accept that alcohol was worsening my condition. I started looking at non-alcoholic beer as a way to enjoy my drink of choice (I really like the taste of beer!) without the negative health effects. To my dismay I found that there was very little variety when it came to non-alcoholic beer – 2 to 3 brands at the grocery store (that all tasted the same) versus over 350 brands at The Beer Store. Totally not fair!!! The goal of PremiumNearBeer.com is to bring great tasting non-alcoholic beer from around the world, in a variety of styles (lagers, wheat beer, dark beer, and more), into one easy to find location.
This blog will chronicle my exploration of the world of non-alcoholic beer, detail some of the products we will be offering to you, and serve as a guide to those who may want to drink non-alcoholic beer for whatever reason(s) including high performing athletes (me? - not if you watch me play hockey), medical conditions, personal choice, driving, weight loss, got to work after lunch duties, religion, medication, healthier lifestyles, or just to be cool.
I encourage you to comment and share this blog. If you have ideas for the website, our service, or what products we carry then we want to hear from you! My next blog post will introduce you to our Beer Expert and delve into one of her reviews.
